30 Days of Mindful Watercolour: A Journey Back to Stillness

It started as a small idea — a way to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with my creative rhythm. I wanted to see what would happen if I showed up every day for 30 days, brush in hand, with no plan other than to paint something small and mindful.

Each morning, after breakfast, I sit at my desk and choose three colours. No sketches, no rules, just water, pigment, and curiosity. These tiny ACEO pieces have become my daily meditation, a quiet space where I can listen rather than think.

The process is simple, but it’s taught me so much. I’ve learned that watercolour has its own mind. It flows, blends, and surprises me. Some days the paint behaves, other days it runs wild — a perfect reflection of life, really.

Small idea

A way to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with my creative rhythm

My inspiration often comes from ancient Mayan glyphs, those mysterious symbols that seem to hum with energy. I don’t try to copy them, but rather let their symbols speaks and I draw the shapes that appear. It’s like having a conversation with something timeless.

This challenge isn’t about producing perfect art. It’s about presence. It’s about noticing how colour feels, how water moves, and how stillness can be found in the smallest of rituals.

If you’ve ever felt the pull to create but didn’t know where to start, maybe this is your invitation. Pick up a brush, choose a few colours, and see what unfolds. You don’t need to know the outcome — that’s the beauty of it.

Blue

Blue feels like breath. It expands, cools, and clears space. When I paint with blue, I feel the quiet of the sky after rain.

Each day of this challenge has reminded me that creativity doesn’t need to be loud or grand to be meaningful. Sometimes it’s found in the quiet moments, in the way colour meets water, or in the pause between brushstrokes. I don’t know exactly where this practice will lead, but for now, it feels like enough just to keep showing up, one small painting at a time.
